When looking at a series circuit, it’s easy to get confused because the parts of the circuit are all connected together. But knowing the basic principles of electricity can help you work through the problem. Voltage is the measure of electrical force that pushes electrical current through the wires in a circuit. It’s measured in volts (V) and is often referred to as “pressure.”

To figure out the voltage in a series circuit, you need to know the total resistance of the circuit, which is the measure of obstructions that slow down the flow of electrical current. You can calculate the total resistance by adding up all the individual resistances in the circuit. For example, if the circuit has three resistors with resistance values of 5 ohms, 10 ohms, and 15 ohms, the total resistance would be 5 + 10 + 15 = 30 ohms.

Once you know the total resistance of the circuit, you can use Ohm’s Law to calculate the voltage. Ohm’s Law states that voltage equals the current times the resistance. You can use this equation to solve for the voltage:

V = I x R

Where:

V = Voltage (in volts)

I = Current (in amperes)

R = Resistance (in ohms)

Since we already know the resistance (R) of the circuit, we just need to find the current (I). We can do this by looking at the diagram and finding the power source. The power source will indicate the amount of current (I) that is being pushed through the circuit.

Once you have the current and the resistance, you can plug them into the equation and calculate the voltage. For example, if the power source is pushing 3 amps of current through the circuit with a total resistance of 30 ohms, the voltage would be 3 x 30 = 90 volts.

Understanding how to figure out voltage in a series circuit diagram isn’t difficult once you understand the basics. Knowing the total resistance of the circuit and the amount of current being pushed through it allows you to use Ohm’s Law to calculate the voltage. With the right tools and knowledge, you can easily decipher any circuit diagram.
